Qatar - 2017/18 Stars League

The Qatar Stars League (Arabic: دوري نجوم قطر), formerly known as the Q-League (Arabic: س الدوري), is the highest professional league in Qatari football, with the next tier being the Qatargas League.
The Qatar Professional Football League Development Committee was set up in December, 2006, by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) to lead the enhancement of professional football in Qatar. This new body was a permanent committee within the QFA and was eventually turned into what is now known as the Qatar Stars League (QSL) in 2008.
The ambition was to develop professional football within Qatar while fulfilling the Asian Football Confederation’s requirements as a professional league.
The QSL is responsible for managing all commercial, broadcast, marketing, ticketing and administrative matters relating to the league, and its 12 member clubs.
The league's most recent championship winner was Lekhwiya Sports Club. The most historically successful team in the league is Al Sadd Sports Club with 13 QSL shields to its name.
The league currently features 12 clubs, with the bottom team straightaway getting relegated at the end of season and the top side from Qatargas League (the official second division) automatically gaining promotion. There will be a play-off between the 11th-placed QSL side and second-placed Qatargas League club for the right to play in the top flight.
Besides the domestic league competition, the QSL runs the Qatar Cup, played by the top four first division teams at the end of season, and QSL Cup.
The teams also compete in the QFA-organised tournaments — season-opening Sheikh Jassim Cup and Emir's Cup played every season by 18 first and second division clubs. The league has been won by 12 different clubs since its inception.
During the 2017-18 season, the QSL was renamed as QNB Stars League following a three-season sponsorship deal signed with the Qatar National Bank.

The 2017–18 Qatari League, also known as Qatari Stars League, is the 45th edition of top level football championship in Qatar.

QSL or the Qatar Stars League have announced the first leg fixtures for the upcoming 2017/18 season which is set start from the 15th of September

There is also set to be a major change in terms of team participants. Unlike like the previous season where the League had 14 teams, QSL will only be featuring 12 teams this season.

The first week of the season will kick off with a tasty meeting between old foes Al Ahli and Al Gharafa at the Al Gharafa stadium on September 15th at 6.00pm. Newly promoted side, Qatar SC will take on Al Duhail who are a recent addition to QSL. The game will take place at the home stadium of Al Duhail.

Due to international duty for Qatar, the first leg of the tournament will see two stoppages of which the first one will last for two weeks following Round 3. While the second break will come ten days after the seventh round.

A lot of thought was put into drafting the first leg match schedule between teams in the QSL. The League teams were divided into groups of three based on the last season’s general ranking.

Group One: Al Duhail, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa

Group Two: Umm Salal, Al Kharaitiyat, Al Sailiya and Al Arabi

Group Three: Al Ahli, Al Khor, Al Markhiya and Qatar SC (Both returning from the second division League.)
