The Malaysia Super League (Liga Super Malaysia) is a Malaysian professional league for association football state teams and clubs. It is at the top flight of the Malaysian League and it is managed by Malaysia Super League Sdn. Bhd., under supervision of the Football Association of Malaysia. The league is contested between 12 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Malaysian Premier League. The 12 clubs participating in this top flight league need to pass a set of requirements and verification process, primarily related to professionalism and infrastructure feasibility.
It was previously known as the Semi-Pro League from 1989 to 1993 and the Malaysian League (Liga-M) from 1993 to 2004. It is currently sponsored by Astro and therefore officially known as the Astro Malaysia Super League. The competition formed in 2004 following the decision by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to privatise the league, but it was not fully privatised. As a result, MSL Sendirian Berhad (or MSL Proprietary Limited) was created to oversee the marketing aspects of the league.
The 2015 Astro Malaysia Super League (also known as Astro Liga Super Malaysia 2015 in Malay and the Astro Malaysia Super League due to the sponsorship from Astro) is the 12th season of the highest Malaysian football league since its inception in 2004. 12 teams participated in the league with Johor DT as the defending champions.
Astro, a Malaysian satellite television company, is the competition's main sponsor.
A total of 12 teams compete in the 2015 season which includes the top 10 teams that participated in the 2014 season and champions and runners-up of the 2014 Malaysia Premier League.
T-Team and PKNS were relegated at the end of the 2014 Malaysia Super League season after finishing in the bottom place of the league table.
2014 Malaysia Premier League unbeaten champions PDRM and runners-up FELDA United secured direct promotion to the Super League.
